… My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. A microcosm of girls in Italy. Currently experiencing puberty. It dives deeply into the mind of the main character and explores her jealousies and her desires. I think it’s very honest about friendship – not just the nice bits. That’s all I can say about the book at the moment. More to come.
Update: I’ve now read all four volumes. Girls became women and other characters joined Lenú and Lila. They were lovers, mothers, they earned a living, struggled and survived. There’s a lot to read and to take in when picking up those four volumes – so i stop here and recommend that you go out and get them.
